Norman
Drummond has been described as “one of the most
inspiring and talented Scots of this generation”. He has
experienced a wide range of public leadership roles within the
Church, the Services, Secondary and Tertiary Education, Charities,
Public Service within the Media and latterly within Business
as an Executive Coach and as a Social Entrepreneur.
Following degrees in Law at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge (where
he also gained his ‘Blue’ for Rugby) and Divinity at New College, Edinburgh where he captained the Scottish Universities, he was Chaplain to Depot The Parachute Regiment and then to
The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment). During his service in the Army he found time
to play rugby to a high standard, captaining both the Army XV
and the Combine Services XV. After a School Chaplaincy at Fettes
College he was appointed Headmaster of Loretto School at the early age of 32.
A former BBC National Governor and
Chairman of the Broadcasting Council for Scotland, Norman was also UK Chairman of BBC Children in Need.
From 1999 to 2003 Norman successfully pioneered and Chaired
the Scottish office of The Change Partnership, the blue chip
provider of one to one bespoke confidential coaching throughout
almost half of the UK 100 FTSE.
In 1999 Norman set up Drummond International, a leading business consultancy which specialises in Inspirational Executive Coaching, Motivational Public Speaking, Inter-Personal Skills, Mediation, Presentation Skills and Media Management across the sectors.
Norman is a Minister of the Church of Scotland and since 1993 has been honoured by his appointment as a Chaplain
to Her Majesty The Queen in Scotland.
Norman is Founder and Chairman of Columba
1400, the highly regarded Community and International Leadership
Centre at Staffin on the Isle of Skye whose aim is to help young
people from tough realities to fulfil their leadership potential. As a life-long educator Norman has shaped his philosophy and
that of Columba 1400 along the lines of a quote given to him by his Mentor, The Very Revd Dr Ronald Selby Wright, “Our task is not to put the greatness back into humanity
but to elicit it for the greatness is there already”. In June 2009, Columba 1400 was named Bank of Scotland/Sunday Times UK Social Entrepreneur of the Year.
From 2003 to 2009 Norman
was Chairman of Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland. He also served as a member of the 2007/08 Scottish Broadcasting Commission. In 2008 he was elected as
a Fellow of the Royal
Society of Edinburgh and in July 2009 was honoured to be appointed as a Visiting Professor of Leadership in Education at the University of Edinburgh.
Norman continues to endeavour to “give voice to those
who don’t have it” and to develop self-worth and
potential in others. His best-selling book in this area “The
Spirit of Success: How to connect your heart to your head in
work and life” will shortly be followed by his new book "The Power of 3", due to be published in 2010. |
